What Molao is, and what it is not

Molao is a legal research and practice platform built for South African and Botswana law. It combines a searchable corpus of real judgments, statute sections and court rules with AI answers that are grounded in that corpus.

The two jurisdictions Molao covers

Molao covers South Africa and Botswana. It does not hold or reason over the law of any other country. When you ask a question that turns on foreign law, Molao declines it and explains why, rather than guessing.

What sits behind the platform

• A corpus of roughly 10,900 judgments — about 10,100 South African and about 950 Botswana.
• Around 112,000 citation links between those judgments, which power ranking and the citator.
• 342 court rules across six forums, and 25 statutes with verified section text, including the Constitution, the Criminal Procedure Act, the Labour Relations Act and the Companies Act.

How Molao is different from a general chatbot

A general AI assistant will answer any question, and will sometimes invent a case to do it. Molao is built the other way around. Every AI answer cites the judgments it relies on, and when the corpus does not hold enough authority to answer safely, Molao says so instead of fabricating one.
