What happens if you run out?
Your monthly allowance resets on the first of each month. If you reach it, nothing is charged automatically. You will be shown a prompt and can either upgrade, or switch on pay-as-you-go for the rest of the month:

- Pay-as-you-go is off by default. You are never charged extra without switching it on yourself.
- Once it is on you are not blocked mid-matter — the work continues and the extra usage is added to your next invoice.
- Your running total is visible at any time in Billing, and a generation that fails is never charged.
- Firm plans pool their allowance, so a busy week for one attorney draws on the firm's shared pool rather than blocking that person.

Is there a free trial?
The Free plan is available indefinitely — no trial expiry, no credit card. You get 3 AI research questions every day plus full search, and you can upgrade at any time as your needs grow.
When does the free daily limit reset?
The Free plan includes 3 AI research questions per day. Your allowance resets at midnight South African time (SAST/CAT) every day — no monthly caps, no expiry.
How does billing work during Closed Beta?
During Closed Beta, plan upgrades are processed manually within one business day. We will send payment instructions via email. Automated billing via card is coming soon.
Can I change plans?
Yes. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time from your account settings. Downgrades take effect at the end of the billing period.
What counts as an AI research answer?
Each time you submit a legal research query and receive an AI answer, that counts as one. Browsing judgment results without asking a question does not count, and an answer that fails to generate is never counted or charged.
What happens when I reach my monthly allowance?
Nothing is charged automatically. You are shown a prompt and can either upgrade your plan or switch on pay-as-you-go, which costs R6 (P5) per additional draft and R2 (P1.50) per additional research answer. Pay-as-you-go is off until you turn it on, and you can see your running total at any time under Billing.
How does Firm pricing work?
Firm is priced per seat with a minimum of three seats — R850 (P649) per seat per month. The allowance is pooled: three seats share 450 research answers and 120 drafts a month, so one attorney having a heavy week draws on the firm's pool instead of being blocked.
Does the Research plan include AI drafting?
No. Research is a research-only plan — 100 AI research answers a month with unlimited case-law search. If you need AI drafting, Self-Representation includes 3 drafts a month and Professional includes 40.
Am I charged in Rand or Pula?
Botswana customers are billed in Pula at the Pula price shown — not a converted Rand figure. South African customers are billed in Rand. Your billing country determines which applies.
Is my matter data private?
Yes. Your matter data is never used to train AI models. Each matter is cryptographically isolated so no other user can access it. See our Security page for full details.
Do you offer academic or NGO pricing?
Yes. Law students, law clinics, and registered NPOs may qualify for discounted access. Contact us at hello@molao.app to apply.
What jurisdictions are covered?
Molao currently covers South Africa (all divisions, Constitutional Court through Magistrates' Court) and Botswana (High Court, Court of Appeal, Industrial Court). Additional jurisdictions are on the roadmap.
